  • 01/04/2013 - Exploring Lourdes with Group 73

The weather hasn't been very kind to us on our first day in Lourdes, but we never let a little thing like rain dampen our spirits! Straight after breakfast it was off into the town centre for our first visit to the Grotto, the spiritual centrepiece of Lourdes. Here we heard the story of St Bernadette and her visions of Our Lady. The Grotto is a very special place, and we all had the chance to walk through to see the spring and touch the walls which are very smooth from the thousands of people who have been here before.

The rain cut our visit short so we decided to head to a cafe for a hot drink and a singalong - I think there will be a few of these stop-offs this week! Then we headed back to the hotel for some arts and crafts time before lunch - we all made some beautiful friendship bracelets.

After lunch, we headed to St Gabriel's for a beautiful Mass with Fr Kevin Paine. Then it was back to the hotel for the Welsh Region party, with lots of games, dancing and singing. After an early dinner, we headed to the Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat Singalong Concert at the Underground Basilica. We had a great time but everyone was very tired after such a long and full day - think we'll all sleep well tonight!
