  • EASTER 2014.... here we come!

Tomorrow is the day we've all been waiting for, bags are packed, badges made, new uniforms ironed and waiting to be donned! In the morning group 73 will have an early start, meeting at 7am outside cardiff's museum to catch a coach to Bristol airport.

7 Children, 13 helpers, new group kit and celebration of our 40 year history.... only some sunshine can improve on perfection.

  • Autumn fundraisers

Hi All, we hope you had a fabulous summer.

As the weather starts to change, our minds turn to next easter and to the funds we need to raise to get us there. We hope to take a large group to celebrate our 40th anniversary trip and Beth & Pete don't seem to have any shortage of nominated children.

Of course, this all takes funds! So to kick up off here are our next 2 events:

Sunday 22nd september: Family sponsored walk around Roath lake

All are welcome to join us for our annual sponsored walk - we'd love to see some of those children and families who've been part of our HCPT family in past years, or anyone wanting to join us in 2014. Brush off your group jumper, start humming rise and shine to yourself and join us for an afternoon stroll. It's a great way to catch up with all those friends from the group who you may not have seen for a while.

We promise plenty of time for an ice cream or cup of tea !

Sponsorship forms are available from group members or the website.

    Friday 18th October: Quiz night

Our legendary quiz night is once again approaching! For all those who've missed Jo O'Brien's soothing tones, she will once again be putting us all to the test in October.

We're back in St Brigid's church hall, starting at 7pm - as usual there will be a bar to help lubricate the brain cells and a splendid buffet, included in the ticket price of £5.

Please help us advertise widely to friends, family and supporters .

  • 06/04/13 - Time to say goodbye

Another early start for the group as we got up and packed our last few bits and pieces. A short coach journey to the airport allowed some time to work our way through the Group 73 songbook - by this point in the week everyone has a favourite song so there were a few battles over who gets to sing their's next! A short flight and we're home to our families waiting in Bristol airport.

Group 73 helpers and children are all home safe after a fantastic week in Lourdes! Thanks to everyone who was there, and to everyone who helped to get us there but especially to our fabulous group leader, 'Big P'.

  • 05/04/2013 - GAVARNIE

On Friday, 73 got up bright and early to have breakfast in our hotel before heading out on a coach to Gavarnie.

Gavarnie is a mountain village, high up in the pyranees and is a spectacular UNESCO world heritage site. The small village of Gavarnie can be found at the foot of a large glacial amphitheatre, containing the tallest waterfall in France and boasting incredible views. It takes us an hour and a half to get there, during which time plenty of songs were sung.

  • 04/04/13 - Trust Mass

Thursday is always a very special day in the HCPT Pilgrimage week as it's the day that every single HCPT group in Lourdes comes together for Mass. Each year, a different HCPT region has the daunting task of organising the Mass and ensuring that plans are in place for the liturgy, offertary procession and of course, lots of hymns and singing. This year, that task has fallen to the Yorkshire region, and the theme is 'We are the hands of the Lord'.

We were all up bright and early to make sure we got to the Underground Basilica in plenty of time to get a good spot. Then it was time to dig out the musical instruments and face paints and get ready for Mass to start. The atmosphere in the Basilica is amazing, with over 5000 people and groups wearing every colour of the rainbow. It is an overwhelming experience for helpers and children alike, and even the 'old timers' who have witnessed it many times before still get a massive buzz from attending. The Yorkshire Region organised a magnificent celebration with Bishop John Rawsthorne presiding over this final Mass for HCPT before he retires as president. As a big added bonus, Brother Michael Strode (HCPT's founder) was also present.

  • 03/04/13 - Watch the birdy...

We woke up to find the sky had turned a strange blue colour. Then an even stranger phenomenon - a warm yellow globe arose in the East. Older members of the group said that this was called the Sun...

After breakfast it was off to the Wales Regional Mass with Bishop Tom of Menevia presiding. As always, this was a very joyous occasion with lots of singing and all the groups getting involved in the offertory procession. Bishop Tom joined in the hymns with great gusto, especially Rise and Shine at the end of the Mass. Then it was out to the Domain for group photographs before heading back to the hotel for lunch.

After lunch we played games in the hotel garden including, for the first time in Group 73 history, a chess tournament won by Isaac. There was also a great water battle in which Chris Spooner of SCFP 707 was badly defeated.

This evening we're off out to paint the town red with our Boys Night Out and Girls Night Out and as the saying goes - what happens in Lourdes, stays in Lourdes...!

  • 02/04/13 - Ahoy there mateys!

It was all hands on deck this morning to make sure we were up, breakfasted and ready to catch the bus to Hosanna House. Yes, it's Tuesday and that can only mean one thing... Pirates and Princesses Day! Once again, our very good friends from group SCFP 707 have joined us for the week.

The journey took about 45 minutes - plenty of time for lots of singing to warm up our voices ready for Mass with the West Indies groups. This is always one of the high points of our week and was really special this year; a lively celebration which ended with a very loud rendition of 'Rise and Shine'! The music was excellent and it was just great to be with wonderful friends. Then it was time for a picnic lunch in the lounge (as it was raining... again!) followed by games, face painting, a bit of shopping in the Hosanna House shop - and of course some sword play and making helpers walk the plank!
